Henry VII (1485 - 1509) Read about Henry VII
WAu-4617: Henry
VII Hammered Gold Angel. Initial mark pheon so 1505 – 1509, making
it a very late issue. Class V, having the apostrophe in the king’s name. Crack extending from the outer edge to the
inner circle (4mm). Not the best of strikes
but probably the cheapest Henry VII angel at this point in time and getting
cheaper the longer it remains unsold!

Presentation
“Piedfort” Piece:
WTH-4919: Henry VII Hammered
Silver Fine Work Presentation or Piedfort Piece. Struck on a large flan of double thickness
(see extra image here),
the reverse utilises a Henry VII Archbishop Bainbridge half groat
die whilst the obverse is from an unrecorded die where the bust exhibits
similarities with the testoon coinage. Unusual HERIC obverse
legend which, as far as I’m aware, only appears on Henry VIII type E second
issue groats.
Issued on behalf of the king to visiting royalty or
dignitary. Extremely high grade
as this would not have been used as currency.
I’m informed that similar but larger denomination examples have achieved
hammer prices of up to £10,000 in the past.
A very rare coin.
