silver in the Henry IV – Richard II period so these large denominations are
especially rare. This one is unusually
full flan although it has been pierced and plugged in antiquity. Ex Spink and sold

those are either creased, weekly struck, clipped, worn or some combination of
all of those things. Rare
coin and the key monarch for UK

Halfpenny. Heavy
coinage (1399 - 1412) but towards the end of that period. Rare Withers type 4: narrower face, distinct eyelids & mouth
with right eye being lower than the left.
London mint. Struck on a
small flan, or lightly clipped, being 7.4 grains (0.48 grams) compared to the
average 9.0 grains (0.58 grams). Not
listed in Spink or North but fully described in "Halfpennies &
Farthings, Henry IV, V & VI" by Withers. A rare, unambiguous coin
with a strong bust. £635

breast is just about visible. Most of
the legend can be seen. Relatively few
examples exist (shortage of silver during this period) and most of those are

those things. This one
with less clipping than usual. Rare coin and the key monarch for UK
