WBC-2647: 150 BC Indo-Scythion Menander. Silver, good grade. £16
WBC-4377: Danubian
Celtic 2nd Century BC Tetradrachm. Contemporary imitation of
Alexander III of Macedon. This
is, without exception, the best-struck example of one of these coins that I
have ever seen. As such, it must be one
of the very first struck late in the 2nd century BC. Obverse:
head of Herakles, right, in lion’s skin. Reverse:
crude figure of Zeus seated left, holding eagle and sceptre. Although somewhat crude, the figure of Zeus
is nowhere near as crude as the later examples.
Also, the head of Herakles on these coins is
usually little more than a raised blob of metal. This coin has a fully recognisable obverse
bust. A choice example
of this collectable issue. £325
